For people who love to switch between SIM cards and/or mobile carriers, the eSIM should be something that will make life easier at some point.
To date, the closest that folks could probably get to trying out eSIMS is to use the ones offered by Apple. The Cupertino company prides itself with the Apple SIM which offers the same perks.
Aside from that, there is no word yet on other companies doing the same; but on Samsung's part, all that could kick off with their upcoming wearables.
That means devices like fitness trackers and smartwatches will already be out with eSIMS, thus accounting for lesser need to physically swap SIM cards when the need arises.
Samsung is expected to release the Samsung Gear S2 Classic 3G by March, the first one for wearables using eSIM technology. It should be an interesting feature to check out, particularly for the traveling techies who will need to switch carriers to put their device to use.
Other mobile phone brands could follow soon, with word from GSMA that brands like LG, Microsoft, and Huawei backing up the new technology.
Additionally, mobile carriers are also supporting the change to eSIM. Mobile carriers like AT&T and Verizon Wireless are among the backers for the shift which, should be welcome news to folks who use more than one SIM card or are forced to at times.
It may only be a matter of time before Samsung and other leading mobile phone brands start unveiling devices adapting the eSIM phenomenon. For now, though, it will be Samsung with the Gear S2 Classic 3G taking the spotlight as it becomes the first wearable to sport eSIM technology.
As far as the smartphone-compatible eSIMS are concerned, there is a big chance that such will happen starting June this year.
