When Samsung opted against using Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processors on their current flagships, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, after the overheating fiasco, it was thought that it would shy away from utilizing Qualcomm units for its future releases. But a new report suggests otherwise.
Rumor has it that some units of its upcoming flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S7, will be fitted with the new-gen Snapdragon 820 chipset, which is expected to be more powerful and less likely to overheat.
Reuters cites South Korea Electronic Times as the source of the report. Citing unidentified sources, the publication claimed that the units to be sold in the US and China will be those with the Qualcomm processor, while the ones with the Exynos processor inside will be sold to the rest of the markets.
Previous speculations hinted that the Samsung Galaxy S7 will also have two distinct versions set apart by their design. One will apparently measure 5.2 inches while the other one will be a phablet-type variant set at 5.8 inches.
As for the specs sheet, speculations have been wild about a 4-GB RAM boarding the smartphone and the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow on board the device. The flagship will also reportedly allow users to expand the storage space with a microSD card.
There are reports though that the in-built storage options will be at 32 GB and 64 GB, which should provide enough room for apps, games, music, photos and videos. And speaking of which, it is expected the Samsung Galaxy S7 will get a 16-MP rear-facing shooter and a 5-MP selfie snapper.
When it comes to a possible release date, rumors point to a possible early 2016 release. With Samsung changing its release patterns presumably to steal some thunder from competitors like Apple, it won't be a surprise if the Samsung Galaxy S7 shows up before March, the month where Samsung usually launches new mobile products.
