Although South Korea-based Samsung is still fresh from announcing its latest flagship iterations, the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+, fans are already wondering when the company will be releasing its next flagship.

Recent reports suggest that fans will not have to wait long and the new Samsung flagship may even have a surprise feature when it launches.

According to South Korean IT publication ETNews, Samsung Electronics decided to push earlier their release of the next Galaxy S iteration. Based on previous timelines, fans expected the Galaxy S7 to make its appearance in the opening months of 2016, March at the earliest. However, according to the report, sources inside the electronics parts industries confirmed that Samsung will be pushing for an earlier release of the flagship. This time, fans may expect the Galaxy S7 to be rolled out as early as January next year.

Marketing plays a part on Samsung's decision. The company hopes that by releasing a new flagship iteration, the Galaxy S7 can take a slice off the smartphone market from some of Samsung's competitors, particularly Cupertino-based Apple with their new iPhones.

Meanwhile, another report surfaced, pointing to Samsung preparing a surprise for Galaxy fans. Apparently, the new Galaxy S7 will come in both 5.2-inch and 5.7-inch display versions with a twist – both of them will be sporting Edge displays. According to industry follower alphr.com, a report from Vietnamese website SamsungViet listed that both the base model and larger versions of the Galaxy S7 will have Edge displays. In addition, it was also speculated that instead of releasing base models and then following up with Edge versions months later, Samsung plans to unveil the Edge models from the get-go. If this rumor dovetails with the early release date speculation, then Samsung fans may see the Galaxy S7 Edge and S7 Edge+ as early as January.
