Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge issues: Fixes to 3 common problems

Samsung's most current flagship devices are the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. However, although both devices have just been recently launched, there are already some issues that owners hope would be fixed through updates.

Of the various issues and glitches that plague the S6 and S6 Edge, the most common complaints do not center on complex glitches like the reported memory leaks, but rather on the devices' features and options.

Fingerprint scanner issues

Some of the most common problems for both flagship devices have something to do with the integrated fingerprint scanner. However, rather than the reader itself, the glitches focus on software bugs that would hopefully be overwritten once updates roll out.

In the meantime, a workaround for the security feature glitch wherein it seems that the scanner is not working is to set up and turn on a backup security password. The system will then automatically ask for the password even if the fingerprint scanner fails, and so the user will still have access to the device. Meanwhile, some users disable the fingerprint security option altogether and just opt for the tried and tested PIN or pattern-based security locks for their phones.

Connectivity problems

It was also found out that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues for the devices are more of a software failure than a problem with the hardware module themselves. Some users suggest a soft reset once connectivity problems arise. A soft reset is done by pressing both Power and Volume buttons together for about 10 seconds. Often, resetting the settings such as forgetting and re-discovering Wi-Fi details or setting up Bluetooth information again also works.

Missing Quick Toggles

One of the most useful feature in the new devices is the Quick Settings feature. With a swipe on the notifications dropdown, users can have access to the most used features on the phone, and can activate or deactivate them without going through the lengthy access steps. However, a bug in an update software deleted the mobile data, Wi-Fi hotspot, and private mode options in the Quick Toggles menu. While a permanent fix is still in the works, Samsung suggests a workaround by using an application called QuickPanel Restore in the Galaxy App Store.
