Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini rumors: Is it too late for a mini version to debut?

It seems that the product line of most mobile phone manufacturers will not be complete without a "mini" version in tow.

Everyone has perhaps heard of Apple's plans for an iPhone Mini (or iPhone 6c), which is a budget-friendly rendition of their main flagship iPhone 6s. So if Apple can do it, why not Samsung?

Strangely, it was something more fictitious than real until today. The alleged Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini popped up at a United Arab Emirates retailer site (LetsTango), which all but confirms that there is indeed a miniature version of the Samsung Galaxy S6 pegged to come. It may be noted though that it seems the listing has been taken down by the retailer as of report writing.

Being a mini version, expectations may need to be lowered a bit. Usually, such a version would see downgraded in specs. Among the features that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini would carry include the following via Ubergizmo.

  • 4.6-inch Super AMOLED screen
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset (clocked at 1.8 GHz)
  • Adreno 418 graphics processing unit (GPU)
  • 2 GB of RAM
  • 16 GB of internal storage
  • 15-megapixel main camera
  • 5-megapixel front-facing camera

Aside from those listed, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini will sport a non-removable battery; include a fingerprint sensor; and come with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system (OS) out of the box.

While it had been put up at the LetsTango site, it is not yet ready for purchase. Instead, interested buyers can sign up via email and wait for an advisory on when the said device would be available.

If it indeed comes out, it seems to be following the same route as Apple as far as the timing of release of its iPhone Mini or iPhone 6c is concerned.

With the Samsung Galaxy S7 likely to come out in February 2016 at the earliest, the debut of the Samsung Galaxy S6 mini could be a product to keep the Samsung Galaxy S6 up in the air.
