'Rune: Ragnarok' gameplay news: Slow-mo decapitations

Back in 2000, there were not so many hack-and-slash role-playing games such as "Rune." While the excitement for the game died down a few years later, it took more than a decade to get the hype back up. With "Rune: Ragnarok" being officially announced last year, developer Human Head Studios has shared with its fans some parts of the game's glorious bloody gameplay that is in line with what fans have imagined the game to be.

While the trailer itself was a big treat already for the many fans waiting for the game's release, the developers could not help but tease the fans a bit more with a short 26-second clip of the game's combat gameplay. The video features players as a Viking jumping off a cliff only to land on an enemy for an instant decapitation.

The best thing about it is that it allowed players to slowly be amazed at the action as the decapitation, or at least a few seconds after, and not the decapitation itself, happens in slow-motion. The player then proceeds to fight the other enemies in sight. There are occasional slow-mo's as well such as when hitting the head successfully and presumably a critical hit.

It is interesting to note that while the gameplay already looks quite fun, the more observant would see some inconsistencies with the game. However, that is only because the game is still in its alpha phase. Even then, a lot of players are getting even more excited for "Rune: Ragnarok," which by the way, should now just be called "Rune" according to the developers.

"We now see Rune as lasting beyond Ragnarok and beyond the Nine Realms, so henceforth and forevermore Rune: Ragnarok will be called Rune. That's right — just Rune," reads the game update post. "Wait! How do we talk about the glory of Rune (circa 2000)? In the spirit of renaming things, feel free to throw around Rune Classic to differentiate the games."

Human Head Studios has not mentioned of any release date or window as of now. However, it should set to enter beta mode hopefully this year.
