There was high anticipation that Ronda Rousey would possibly be returning at Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 200 this July but the latest developments may have well scratched any hope of seeing that much awaited rematch involving her and reigning UFC women's bantamweight champion Holly Holm.
According to Yahoo Sports, Rousey had asked UFC president Dana White for more time off due to changes in her filming schedule.
Rousey is set to appear in the film remake "Road House," but filming has reportedly been pushed back. With that said, Rousey will likely end up with a messed up schedule and align with earlier fears that she may not have the proper time to recover and prepare for a rematch with Holm.
White had no qualms with the request, saying that Rousey has done more than enough for the UFC. He did, however, add in the report that he has no idea on when Rousey would fight again.
With the recent turn of events, it turns out that the move to have Holm face Miesha Tate this March at UFC 197 was a good move after all.
Holm and her manager Lenny Fresquez were uneasy with the Rousey situation, believing the former champion may not be prepared to re-enter the Octagon by July. Both asked for a fight prior to UFC 200, and White agreed to set the match with Tate.
With the uncertainty surrounding Rousey these days, varying opinions on her future in the UFC come into mind. Many came up with seemingly crazy conclusions that Rousey may never return to UFC action despite the fact that she made it clear that she wants another crack at Holm (via Instagram) when she is up and ready.
Right now, the time element comes into mind. With Rousey caught up in the Hollywood beat, it will be interesting to see if such would prevent her from strutting her stuff once again inside the Octagon.
