Red Dead Redemption 2 release date: announcements are off until April 2017; no Gamescom announcement on sequel

Hopes were high that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be announced at the upcoming Gamescom 2016 and for a while, with Take-Two Interactive being listed as one of the exhibitors for the major gaming event, it seemed like a very good possibility.

Adding fuel to the speculations was the statement of Take-Two Interactive co-founder Strauss Zelnick that Rockstar was set to announce new games, leading fans to believe Red Dead Redemption 2 will at least be mentioned since there has been no news of its release date so far, University Herald reported.

Now, it has finally been confirmed by Take-Two and Rockstar that the game won't be included in the line up for Gamescom which is set to happen this August in Cologne, Germany.

"Rockstar Games is of course hard at work on some exciting future projects that will be revealed soon," Take-Two said.

The studio has also announced its entire release schedule for the financial year, hinting that there will be no new game from Rockstar before 2017.

Prior to rumors of a Gamescom announcement, there were reports that the game may be released by Rockstar Games this year.

There was also a leaked map which hints at potential locations like Great Plains and Caravans, rivers, islands which expands chief protagonist John Marston's scope for his missions, making his quest more exciting.

According to a report by GamingBolt, it does not really come as such a big surprise that no announcement will be made about Red Redemption sequel as studios may be more focused about games that have already been revealed like Mafia 3 and WWE as well as those that have already been announced and in development.

The report advised fans not to pin their hopes on seeing John Marston in any form, whether it be in a younger form, or a non playable character at the event and instead wait until studios are good and ready to announce an actual release date, hopefully by next year.
