PS4 vs. Xbox One sales 2015: Sony tops Microsoft in game console sales again

For the fourth month in a row, Sony has spun one over Microsoft as far as game console sales are concerned, according to the latest report from research firm NPD.

The word out is that the Playstation 4 (PS4) has outshone Microsoft's patented Xbox One for August, making it the fourth consecutive month that Sony has done better with its game console hardware sales.

The only time that Microsoft outsold Sony this year was back in April. Despite this report, Microsoft reveals that the Xbox One sales did increase by 26 percent when compared to its performance for August in 2014.

A prime reason singled out for the success of Sony was its gaming lineup. "Madden NFL 16" scored first in software sales. It was followed closely by "Minecraft" and "Gears of War: Ultimate Edition" at second and third, respectively.

Further to the report, it was revealed that the new games and hardware generated a combined total of $548 million in the U.S. market for August.

The timid sales for game consoles is seen as a result of the fact that most big game titles are reserved for release by the last quarter of the year.

Among the big game titles expected to provide the game consoles a big push include "Forza Motorsport 6," "Halo 5: Guardians," "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3," "Assassin's Creed: Syndicate," "Rise of The Tomb Raider," and "Star Wars: Battlefront," among others.

Pricing seems to have hardly made an impact on the consumer's preference, seeing that Microsoft offers the Kinect-less Xbox One for just $349 since Jan. 16 of this year.

Sony, on the other hand, offers a slightly higher-priced PS4 at $399 since its launch in November 2013. This somehow indicates that preference has indeed boiled down to the gaming titles available for each console.

"We continue to demonstrate our commitment to delivering the best content line-up with the launch of first-party exclusives like Until Dawn and third-party titles like Madden NFL 16, which sold more on PS4 than any other platform," Sony Computer Entertainment America said in a statement.
