After four years in development and numerous delays, "Project CARS" is already set for launch this week.

Confirmed by an official tweet from Bandai Namco U.K., the motor race simulation game is set for release on May 8 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. However, these three platforms are the only ones who got the final release date for the title, and there are still no details available on a Wii U version.

In addition, the title's developer, Slightly Mad Studios, announced that the "Project CARS" game will have a staggered release for the global market. The digital version will be made available on Steam starting at midnight on May 7. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One physical copies will be released on May 7 for Australia, Asia, and Europe; May 8 for the U.K.; and finally, May 12 for North America and Canada.

Speaking on why it took four years for the development to bear fruit, Bandai Namco and Slightly Mad Studios say that it will reflect on the game's massive content.

Bandai Namco said, "Project CARS includes the largest track roster of any recent racing game, a huge variety of motorsports to play, a freeform and authentic career mode, world-class graphics and handling, dynamic time of day & weather, and a suite of community features and connectivity that leave the competition behind in the dust."

The title has been beset with many setbacks and was delayed at least three times. "Project CARS" was originally scheduled to be released on November 2014. However, it was delayed and the release date moved to March this year. A week before the intended March release, the developer announced that the game would be delayed anew, and promised a late April rollout.

To compensate for the delays, there will be free content available for players on day one of the launch.
