"Spoby" shippers cannot help but get their hopes up that their favorite couple in "Pretty Little Liars" will be back together soon when executive producer I. Marlene King posted a revealing photo on Instagram.
In the set image, Toby (Keegan Allen) and Spencer (Troian Bellisario) are standing side by side in a dark room. The latter can be seen reading an old book while Toby is holding a flashlight over the text. It has been confirmed in the "5 Years Forward" special episode that Spencer will be single when the second half of season 6 begins. She and Toby, apparently, broke up and he will be in a relationship with a woman named Yvonne.
During the five-year time-jump, Spencer has been pursuing her political aspirations in Capitol Hill. The promo for the upcoming episode titled "Of Late I Think of Rosewood" shows the smartest Liar sitting on a bench with the U.S. Capitol Building in the background. She is reading Allison's (Sasha Pieterse) letter, asking her and the other girls to return to Rosewood to help her out with the trial.
Hanna (Ashley Benson), Emily (Shay Mitchell), and Aria (Lucy Hale) are also seen in the teaser, all receiving Allison's request for a reunion. Viewers caught a glimpse of what they have become after five years. Hanna is on a plane, presumably accompanying her designer boss to another fashion show. Emily is behind a bar, dishing out drinks, while Aria is part of the team readying the set for an author's book signing.
When the girls return to Rosewood, it is expected that they will all be meeting Toby once again. He has stayed in their hometown, where he is now serving as a police officer. It will be interesting to see how he and Spencer will get along after their break up. Theirs is a relationship that has never been easy from the start, but it has become obvious that at one point in their lives, they sincerely loved each other.
"Pretty Little Liars" season 6 will return on Tuesday, Jan. 12, at 8 p.m. EST on Freeform (formerly ABC Family.)
