Emily (Shay Mitchell) will return to Rosewood with a lot of emotional baggage in the upcoming episode of the hit series "Pretty Little Liars" season 6B.

When she, Hanna (Ashley Benson), Aria (Lucy Hale) and Spencer (Troian Bellisario) go back to their hometown, they will be facing a new wave of terror and fear. The Liars may have succeeded in outwitting "A," but the new villain that is waiting for them in Rosewood is molded from a different cloth. Spoilers have revealed that the new big bad will go on a killing spree, and the girls will be his/her ultimate target.

At the center of the turmoil is Emily, who comes back after the death of her father. Series creator Marlene King told Variety that the five-year time-jump has not treated her well. She said that Mitchell's character is the one who has changed the most, after going through a lot in her life. Viewers will see her working as a bartender in California when the series returns. During the time jump, Emily studied at Pepperdine but decided to dropout after learning of her father's passing. She stayed in California, though.

"I think Emily comes back with the biggest secret... She really has two [secrets]. One of the secrets informs the other. Over the course of the time jump, her father passes away unexpectedly and she will have a really difficult time dealing with that," King said.

Meanwhile, a new promo shows the moment Emily returns to Rosewood. In the clip, she is seen talking to her mother, Pam Fields (Nia Peeples), about how long she plans to stay. She and the other girls are back in town because of Alison's (Sasha Pieterse) request that they appear in Charlotte's court hearing.

"Pretty Little Liars" season 6 will return on Tuesday, Jan. 12, at 8 p.m. EST on Freeform (formerly ABC Family).
