'Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon' news: New gameplay trailer out

 Nintendo

Many fans have been waiting for a while now for the follow-up to the successful "Pokémon X and Y" titles, but those who want a "Pokémon Z" will probably be a bit disappointed to know that the successor to the main "Pokémon" storyline is still on the drawing board. However, there is still good news as a new Pokémon game is coming soon, "Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon."

Nintendo and franchise owner The Pokémon Company have been busy building up the hype for the upcoming "Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon." The latest in their series of announcements prior to the release is a new trailer video showing gameplay footages.

Rather than conform to the story of the old "X and Y," or even the more recent "Omega Ruby" and "Alpha Sapphire," the upcoming "Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon" is – as the title suggests – more of dungeon explorations with the player's chosen Pokémon as companions. One of the challenges of the game is to collect not only any of the 18 starter Pokémon but also all of the current Pokémon in the list, including the recently-introduced Hoopa.

Meanwhile, the gameplay footage shows off some of the items that players can use to boost their Pokémon, such as the Lapis and Ringle. The Ringle is an equipment used to hold different types of Lapis, which come in the form of a stone. There are already three confirmed Lapis items that can be used in "Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon." Protect Up boost reduces damage for the Pokémon when fighting, while the Barrage Protect Lapis protects multiple hits per turn for the chosen fighter. Meanwhile, the Power Up Lapis ups Pokémon strength.

"Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon" will be released in Japan on Sept. 17, and on Nov. 20 in North America for the Nintendo 3DS.
