2016 NBA trade rumors: Suns abandoning #4 pick in favor of Jahlil Okafor or Gordon Hayward?

Is Jahlil Okafor the missing link that Phoenix Suns need to get back to playoff contention for the upcoming season?

Based on a report by the Inquisitr, the Suns could seriously be considering Okafor to be part of the team despite his poor defensive showing last season because they see the potential in his offense. The Philadelphia 76ers are reportedly open to trading him in exchange for the Sun's 4th overall pick.

By getting Okafor, the Suns can improve their front court game, especially if they combine the efforts of Tyson Chandler with the younger player.

"There is no telling what Okafor will develop into in the future. He struggled with some off-the-court issues this past season, which is one of the main reasons that the 76ers are open to cutting ties with him. Phoenix would be taking a bit of a risk by trading such a high pick for Okafor, but is a risk worth taking," sports writer Evan Massey said.

The Suns may include Alex Len in the deal as well as the 24th overall pick.

Analysts believe that this will be a smart move for the Suns because Okafor can make a solid post statement with is current average of 17.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game last season. His shooting percentage was also 50.8 percent from the field while sinking 68.6 percent of his foul shots.

Meanwhile, another report from Fansided hints at the Suns gunning for another player this season, this time a veteran – Gordon Hayward.

The report, which quoted ESPN's Marc Stein, indicated that Hayward may be an unexpected choice for the Suns but based on the numbers, he has remained a very productive player, especially in the last two seasons.

While the Suns may have a game plan in wanting Hayward, sports writer Scott Hanna-Riggs doesn't think its worth the risk.

"I don't see enough overall potential in Hayward. He is a productive NBA player, but he won't be an elite defender, and he doesn't fit as well next to T.J. Warren compared to potential picks at #4 overall like Dragan Bender or Marquese Chriss," he said.
