The Philadelphia 76ers will be forced to wait another year at the least to see if Joel Embiid is indeed a man worth waiting for.
After missing the whole of the 2014–15 NBA season, the Sixers will now have to wait another full year to see Embiid on the hardwood. This piece of bad news came after Embiid required a second surgery on his foot, which according to reports is similar to the same injury that Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant suffered last season.
It remains to be seen what Embiid can do on the floor, although Sixers general manager Sam Hinkie (via report from Fox Sports) says that the Cameroonian looks magnificent before it was learned that the seven-footer would require a second surgery on his foot.
Discussion on the future of Embiid has been up in the air, especially after the Sixers were able to land Jahlil Okafor in the recently concluded NBA Draft. There are some who feel that the Sixers may opt not to pick up the option after this coming season, seeing that an Okafor and Nerlens Noel tandem could very well do the same had Embiid played in his rookie year.
But from the looks of it, the Sixers will be patiently waiting to see what Embiid's got first before figuring out their next move.
Foot problems shrouded the decision of several teams from getting Embiid and it seems that the first ones who did so made the right call. The Cleveland Cavaliers went for Andrew Wiggins while the Milwaukee Bucks picked up Jabari Parker over the Cameroonian.
The Cavs were contemplating on geting Embiid, seeing that the team was in search for a big man to fill in the middle at that time.
So will the wait be worth it? Well, the Sixers have a full year ahead to get the answer to that and it may be somewhere in the early goings of the 2016–17 NBA season. By stating somewhere in the early goings is because Embiid is likely not yet ready to play by opening night the NBA 2016–17 NBA season.
