Hard as it is right now to get hold of a OnePlus 2 unit, considering customers can only get one with an invite, OnePlus plans to close its online reservation system this Oct. 22 since they allegedly want to start focusing on producing enough units to meet current demand.
Since OnePlus started to gain attention, the company has always used the invite-only schematics for people to get their hands on a unit. Although the tactic was dreaded by many, it hardly affected the demand for their units.
Somehow, the company did manage to relax it a bit, even offering units via Amazon India recently via an Open Sale tactic but for only one hour and limited to one unit per transaction. The offer was made twice, and surely, there were a lot who are believed to have grabbed the opportunity.
Now, under normal conditions, it looks like getting one will be made even harder. OnePlus is avoiding the backlog issue, which means that getting hold of one of their units once they do close the online reservation system may be close to impossible.
Of course, there will be alternatives like buying it from merchants who are bound to offer them at prices higher than the actual market value. Other than that, the OnePlus 2 will likely end up being a hard-to-find unit.
OnePlus doesn't stand to suffer from it and may in fact benefit from it. It technically makes the unit a limited edition device, although that may depend on how you define "limited edition."
But then again, it could only be temporary since OnePlus wants to make sure that they can cover the market demand, although such seems hard to picture considering the clamor for it has grown out of proportion.
Like it or not, folks who have plans of getting the OnePlus 2 will have to make a reservation as soon as possible. You can do so now by clicking on this link.
