New York Knicks trade rumors 2016: Better off with Jose Calderon for now

For the New York Knicks, it is time to consider all options as far as honing up their backcourt is concerned. Their frontcourt seems to be stable enough, but unless a reliable court general is able to hold the team together, all that goes down the drain.

Jose Calderon is a proven court general but the fact remains he is lacking something that can bring out the best from Carmelo Anthony, rookie Kristaps Porzingis, and the rest. As it is right now, he seems to be playing more like a backup rather than a starter.

Skimming the list of upcoming free agents, there are some who could do better. Aaron Brooks, Jamal Crawford, Mario Chalmers, Dwyane Wade, and Rajon Rondo are among the unrestricted free agents they could get their hands on, vets who could potentially beef up their backcourt instantly.

But if the Knicks are in a hurry, they could deal for one right now.

Brandon Jennings was an option but the Knicks still doubt whether he can still do the same things he did before in Milwaukee and Detroit after rupturing his Achilles.

The Knicks don't actually have to wait and could deal for him, but nothing has transpired for now. Then there is also Ty Lawson who wants out of Houston. He hasn't exactly had a good year, so adding him doesn't really carry promise.

Jennings and Lawson aren't exactly the players who can stabilize the backcourt, so unless someone better comes up, the Knicks are better off sticking with Calderon and their young group of inexperienced guards.

Right now, the Knicks have already overachieved. No one gave them a chance and somehow they are weathering the storm and surprising many.

And, of course, it would be better to take advantage of the situation and target good players to fill up holes in their roster. Unfortunately, the position they need to beef up hasn't really returned players who could help their cause. Hence, it may be better for them to wait for the 2015–16 season to end and then check the market again.
