New Orleans Pelicans rumors: Ryan Anderson making waves despite trade talks

Ryan Anderson's name has been in trade talks recently but as everyone knows, none has materialized or at least come close to materializing.

He was mentioned as possibly headed to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Rudy Gay but the New Orleans Pelicans pulled out of talks in what was believed to be a move to preserve their chances for the coming National Basketball Association (NBA) Draft.

The Pelicans are struggling with injuries to key players, but Anderson seems to have been putting up credible performances despite being mentioned as someone on the move. He has scored at least 30 points in three games already, proving he is still a force to reckon with on the offensive end.

This is one thing that makes Anderson a curious addition for any team in need of someone who can light it up. He technically plays small forward, but his ability to play the stretch four becomes a benefit for teams who don't want to offset scoring with height.

Could his recent run be a reason why the Pelicans are pulling the plug on possible trade deals? Seeing his potential which has finally come out, it may not be surprising.

Being on the last year of his contract with the Pelicans, it will be interesting to see if he stays put after this season. He seems to be a good compliment to Anthony Davis right now, so the Pelicans may be wise to re-check their options.

A lot of that will perhaps depend on what assets they can add in the offseason. The NBA Draft is one, while the available free agents will also deserve a look.

It may be a bit premature to consider all that for now, and the best thing the Pelicans can do at this point is maximize Anderson while he is sizzling the hoops. After the season is done and over with, the Pelicans can take it from there.
