New champions will be crowned in the National Football League (NFL) and New England Patriots franchise quarterback Tom Brady is unhappy after Sunday's American Football Conference (AFC) Championship Game where they were dethroned by the Denver Broncos.

The Patriots, who won Super Bowl XLIX last season, were edged 2018 by the Broncos who played with splendid defense, especially on Brady.

In the AFC Championship Game, Brady had an average performance completing 27-of-56 passes for 310 yards and only one touchdown, also getting sacked four times.

According to ESPN, the Broncos hit Brady 23 times last Sunday which may have disrupted his game.

Following the loss, Brady said there was no excuse for him "for not getting the job done."

The 38-year-old added, "Our guys fought hard. I'm proud of all the guys for what they tried to accomplish. We just came up one play short to a very good football team."

New England had the opportunity to push the game to overtime and increase its chance of defending the conference and Super Bowl championships, but failed on a two-point conversion.

Brady recorded his only touchdown pass when he connected with star tight end Rob Gronkowski for a four-yard score.

The touchdown narrowed the deficit 2018 and with 12 seconds left in the fourth quarter, the Pats tried to go for the tie but were unable to convert on their two-point attempt as time ran out.

"It's a disappointing loss because this team fought pretty hard, just to come up short on a two-point play," Brady said, according to ESPN

"It would have been a fun overtime, had we had the opportunity. We just came up one play short," he continued.

Despite the defeat, the four-time Super Bowl winner expressed pride in the way they played until the end.

Now, the NFL will have new champions this season, either the team that defeated the champs, the Denver Broncos, or the squad that had the best record in the regular season, the Carolina Panthers.
