NBA trade rumors 2015: The New York Knicks may want to get Brandon Jennings now

The New York Knicks have invested heavily in their frontline the past years but if they want to fare better, it may be time to take a look at their guard line.

To date, the Knicks have leaned on José Calderón for their quarterbacking needs but somehow, there is still something lacking. Calderon is not the type who would drive to the basket, something that the Knicks could use badly.

Aside from Calderon, there are other guards trying to boost the backcourt. There is Sasha Vujačić and Jerian Grant, among others, but their efforts are simply not enough. So, is it time to look at the available guards in the market?

Consistency and stability in the backcourt seems to be sorely missing right now, and such is a waterloo that the Knicks may want to address if they are to reach the National Basketball Association (NBA) playoffs.

One player whom the Knicks are allegedly considering is Brandon Jennings of the Detroit Pistons.

Jennings has returned from an Achilles tear injury so the Knicks could be observing first how well the Pistons guard has recovered from that.

The 26-year-old point guard does bring the skills that the Knicks may need. He can shoot, create situations, and pick up the pace. He has proven such through the years, most of it perhaps when he was still with the Milwaukee Bucks from 2009 to 2013.

Right now, Jennings could be dispensable with Reggie Jackson on board, plus the fact that he is in the final year of his three-year $24 million contract with the Pistons, according to the NY Post.

Calderon may likely find himself as the player the Knicks would deal for Jennings. But if Derek Fisher and Phil Jackson truly want to snag the 10th overall pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, adding more assets to the deal should get it done.
