"Mr. Robot" season 2 returns even darker than before.

Fans of the USA Network's hit summer series "Mr. Robot" are counting the days until their favorite drama–thriller show returns. While the network has yet to announce the official premiere date for the next installment, showrunner and creator Sam Esmail and the cast have offered hints on what they can expect for season 2.

In an interview with Deadline, actress Portia Doubleday, who plays Angela, has previewed that the second installment would be even darker than the first. She said that the new episodes would be bringing its trademark "madness" courtesy of its lead character, Elliot (Rami Malek). "Mr. Robot" has been labeled as one of the breakout shows of the year, thanks to the eerie world of hacking introduced to its thousands of audience.

Viewers will also learn what happened to Darlene (Carly Chaikin) and how her crew created the fsociety. Chaikin shared that season 2 would be featuring back stories of the first installment from different angles.

In the last season finale, fsociety launched an attack on Evil Corp, which culminated to an executive blowing his brains out on live television. Elliot was still being controlled by his hallucinations as he searched throughout the city for Tyrell (Martin Wallström). Mr. Robot (Christian Slater) had no choice but to take full control of Elliot and gave him orders to follow.

Meanwhile, The Huffington Post reports that there is a high chance of a romantic arc for Eliot in the upcoming season. Executive producer Esmail said during a panel discussion at PaleyFest New York 2015 held last month that Elliot and Angela's "will they or will they not" plotline may be reexamined once the show returns.

Malek, for his part, said that he wanted to stray a bit from all the seriousness that was "Mr. Robot." During the same panel discussion, the actor admitted that he was looking forward to "a neat bottle episode" where his mentally-disturbed character could let his hair down, so to speak.

Before "Mr. Robot" returns, USA Network is set to bring the first season onto DVD and Blu-Ray, which will be released early in January next year.
