One of the things that many observers say is an indication of a new device coming out is when its current version goes on sale. Cutting the price of the current version not only lessens the stocks in inventory, it also keeps fans' interest on its successor. This summer, it seems that Motorola is lined up as the next tech manufacturer to use this marketing strategy.

According to reports, there is an ongoing summer sale at Motorola U.K., regarded by many as a quick follow-up to the two-day sale that the company did back in May. This is not just any other sale though, since the price cut for the Moto X 2014 version is a substantial one.

In the two-day sale last month, Motorola slashed the price of the Moto X to £299 for the 16 GB model and £319 for the 32 GB version. This time around, Motorola U.K. has cut the prices down some more. This places the current prices of the Moto X 2014 version much lower than even third-party retailer prices. Today, Motorola fans can get the Moto X 2014 version for just £229 for the 16 GB version and £269 for the 32 GB model. In addition, the Moto X 2014 high-storage version also has Moto Maker customization already included in the package.

All in all, Motorola U.K. has slashed its Moto X prices by as much as £166.

In addition to the Moto X 2014 being discounted, Motorola U.K. has also brought down the prices of the much newer Nexus 6. Discounting the device by as much as £80, Nexus fans or those who would like to try the Nexus 6 can get the 32 GB model for £399 and the 64 GB version for £469.

Motorola U.K.'s Summer Sale is up until June 30.
