Moto 360 2 release date and specs: Smartwatch coming in two versions?

Motorola's Moto 360, the predecessor of the soon-to-be released Moto 360 2.

When Motorola launched its original Android Wear smartwatch, the Moto 360, it was one of the devices that truly revolutionized the wearables industry. Now, after more than a year since its launch, Motorola reportedly believes that it is time to improve and overhaul the company's original wearable.

Although Motorola has kept the development of the 2nd-gen Moto 360 under wraps so far, there are still inadvertent slips that give fans a quick sneak peek at the upcoming smartwatch. Just recently, a short video from the company's social media channels gave viewers a glimpse of what could be the new Moto 360, since there were notable design changes from the original smartwatch. Motorola, realizing the gaffe, already took down the video.

Meanwhile, it is also speculated that the new Moto 360 could come in two variants. According to tech industry observer website 9to5Google, documentations from Brazil's Anatel shows application for two Motorola products labeled 360S and 360L. Considering that Motorola has a wide range of product lineups, it is more than likely that the applications are for other products. However, technical specs for the two devices point out that the upcoming products will have radio connectivity; and notably, their battery capacities are listed as 270 mAh power for the 360S and a larger 375 mAh capacity for the 360L, which are likely indications that these products are smartwatches.

Anatel is Brazil's agency that regulates radio and telecoms activities in the country. Much like other telecoms regulating agencies in other countries, any product with radios on them that would be sold commercially would have to undergo application and supervision from official organizations.

According to rumors, the 2nd-gen Moto 360 is likely to appear during this year's IFA event in Berlin. There might be some truth to the speculations, since Motorola has already unveiled its smartphone flagships last month, and it will need a major lineup announcement in the annual IFA, considered to be one of the biggest tech consumer trade shows.
