Although developer NetherRealm Studios did confirm that there will be an upcoming expansion to its current iteration for the "Mortal Kombat" franchise, there was no other detail furnished, particularly regarding who will be the next characters that will be added to the roster. The already-impressive list of fighters when "Mortal Kombat X" was released was made even more expansive with the roll out of "Kombat Pack 1."
Lack of information about the upcoming "Kombat Pack 2" now keeps fans guessing as to who can be the next challengers.
According to VCPost, Wolverine is one of the characters that would appear as the next "Mortal Kombat X" fighters. However, it was only a speculation, based on the silhouette of the characters that NetherRealm Studios released for the announcement of "Kombat Pack 2." Ed Boon teased about this image in one of his previous tweets heralding the upcoming expansion.
Meanwhile, closer to the franchise, some observers like PlayStation Universe listed some "Mortal Kombat" veterans as the next DLC characters. According to the website, the most likely fighters that would make it to the roster may include Smoke, Rain, Baraka, Bo Rai Cho, and Sindel. The list is a sound one, as the fighters were already included in past "Mortal Kombat" titles. Rain and Baraka, for instance, already appear in "Mortal Kombat X," although only as non-playable characters.
In addition to franchise veterans, there would also fighters outside of the realm that may likely appear as next DLC, judging by Jason Voorhees's appearance in "Kombat Pack 1." Aside from Wolverine, characters that were being bandied about to be making the cut for "Kombat Pack 2" include Spawn and the Xenomorph from the "Alien" series of films.
The Xenomorph may be one of the included characters for the next expansion, given that Ed Boon confessed he is a great fan of the series, as well as the Predator (presented as the Xenomorph's nemesis in the films) already part of the roster. Meanwhile, it was already reported that Spawn creator Todd McFarlane has already given his blessing for his character's appearance in a "Mortal Kombat" game.
