Microsoft's Surface Pro 4 first came out in October 2015, but regardless of the unlikelihood of its successor getting released within a year, a lot of rumors already abound regarding the Microsoft Surface Pro 5.

According to Mobile & Apps, there were rumors of the Surface Pro 5's reveal and release in May or June. However, these rumors turned out to be false after the months have passed and nothing happened. With this, it's possible that the release date for the Surface Pro 5 will be around the spring of 2017.

This speculation has gained traction due to the fact that a lot of experts theorize that Microsoft's plan is to launch its huge Windows update by next year. Furthermore, Microsoft is rumored to get its new update out around that time, called Redstone or "RS2" by the time its newest flagship devices are released, mainly the Surface Book 2 and the Surface Pro 5.

Neurogadget seems to agree with this scenario, since it's plausible for the hybrid tablet because of the new Windows operating system. Also, Microsoft could also be waiting for the release of Intel Kaby Lake processor, since this will enable the support of the native USB 3.1 as well as support the native HDCP 2.2. This processor will also support a full fixed function HEVC Main10/10-bit and VP9 10-bit hardware video decoding.

All in all, this means that the new Surface Pro 5 will be much more efficient compared to the Surface Pro 4, while consuming less power, hence extending battery life. With this, a lot of users can finally stop complaining about limited battery life span, if ever the rumors turn out to be true.

In any case, the earliest possible time for the Surface Pro 5 will be early 2017, so fans should just stay tuned for more updates.
