Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date, specs, news: Microsoft event details confirmed; hybrid tablet arriving Oct. 26?

Microsoft has finally announced its highly anticipated media event that will happen on Oct. 26. The excitement level of Surface Pro fans is now on a higher level as they anticipate the unveiling of the fifth-generation device at the event.

The Surface Pro 5 is expected to be faster and better than its predecessor. It is speculated to be equipped with the seventh generation Intel Core processor, known as Kaby Lake. The next processor can provide 4K resolution and 3D display. It is also capable of natively supporting USB 3.1 Type-C and Thunderbolt 3 ports. These features are not instantly supported by the Skylake chip and require additional components.

Microsoft could offer its high-end models with 4K screens, while the lower variants will have the standard 2K resolution but with an improved pixel density. The cameras are said to be 16 MP at the back and 8 MP in the front, while the internal storage could also go as high as having a 2 TB option. A rechargeable battery instead of the disposable one is also speculated to be used on its Surface Pen.

Other Surface devices are also rumored to be unveiled at the upcoming event. An all-in-one (AIO) desktop machine is expected to arrive with three different screen sizes, 21, 24, and 27-inches. The smallest is said to have Full HD resolution, while the other two models will offer 4K resolutions. Ars Technica added that a Bluetooth wireless mouse and keyboard could also arrive with the device, similar to the iMacs of Apple.

The Surface Book 2 is also anticipated to arrive with an improved processor, a better GPU, and a redesigned hinge. It is rumored to be powered by the Kaby Lake chip, and it said to have a GTX 10 series GPU from NVIDIA. A 4K display, USB 3.1, and Thunderbolt 3 are also expected to be incorporated into the alleged device.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is rumored to be unveiled on Oct. 26 at 10:00 a.m. EDT during the Microsoft Windows 10 event.
