It is unlikely that Microsoft's Surface Pro 5 will come out late this year despite persistent rumors that it will be released in 2016.

According to a report by Breathecast, this is mainly because the latest in the Surface Pro Line will either be using a Kaby Lake processor or a Redstone 2 out of the box.

However, both processors are not expected to come out until next year. The Kaby Lake processor is earmarked for a January 2017 release while the Redstone 2 processor won't be available until June 2017.

For the Redstone 2 processor, the report hints at a two tranch release.

Meanwhile, a report by Tech Radar hints that Microsoft could actually be timing the release to directly compete with Apple's iPad Pro line, which is also rumored to come out next year in March.

However, the iPad Pro, on the other hand, is expected to use the A10X chip to speed up its performance.

If early speculation proves true, the Redstone will be the next iteration of the Windows 10 and it is expected to come out with a whole slew of new features that is slated to help improve the performance of the current OS.

While the first tranch of Redstone release is focused on converging existing Windows 10 devices like PCs, the Xbox, and smartphones, the Redstone 2 — which is expected for the spring release for 2017— will allegedly continue with the gains of the first one like the Continuum which allows for SMS texting and cellular calls to be performed through a desktop. This will make it all the more competitive with Apple, which boasts of that capability using an iPhone and a Mac OS X, reported WinBeta.

It is expected that there will also be UI adjustments as well as new features to be included in the Redstone 2, as well as the inclusion of Microsoft Edge support.
