With Microsoft expecting to enter the smartphone market with its Surface Phone 2016, it is to be expected for it to have a rough battle with other, more established phone manufacturers.

Regardless, this device is rumored to have exceptional specs and is considered to be a high-end device. Also, it is expected to come out with three variants that have different features and functionalities. According to Mobile & Apps, one of these variants will possess an Intel Atom X3 Processor with a 6GB RAM. This variant is the mid-range device compared to its two other counterparts.

Meanwhile, the entry-level variant will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor with 4GB of RAM and will have the latest mobile operating system of Windows 10. The last variant of the device is intended for enterprise and business use, since it is rumored to have an 8GB RAM with 512GB of internal storage. As for all the variants, these will feature a Type-C USB port that allows faster data transfers as well as liquid cooling technology that will ensure better performance for the device.

According to the Vine Report, additional features across the three variants will include an AMOLED display, expected to be at least 5.5 inches, an external microSD card support and a 20MP rear camera with Carl Zeiss lens. Also, the upcoming smartphone is also expected to have support for Surface accessories, like the Surface Pen for example.

As for its release date, The Bitbag points out that it is possible for the Surface Phone to be launched by 2017. Microsoft itself has given a hint about this, since the notes on a wall showcasing the Surface devices in the company's Building 88 in Washington indicates that the next devices to be released will be in 2017.

For the price, it's expected to be around the $700-$1100 price range, depending on the phone variant.
