Microsoft Surface Phone release date, specs: handset coming in 2017, according to Microsoft employee

Many believe that Microsoft is creating a Surface Phone and is said to be targeting a release date this year. However, the alleged new device is not poised for release until next year, that is according to an anonymous Microsoft employee.

A hardware event is expected to take place sometime in October this year and this is where the Surface Phone will allegedly see the light of day. A recent revelation by an anonymous Microsoft employee riding a train went on to talk about the supposed plans of the Redmond-based tech giant. According to the employee, the company will be officially announcing Microsoft Band 3 this year and the Surface Phone will be unveiled next year, Supersite Windows reported.

The report also mentioned that this train ride chitchat did not take place anywhere near the company's headquarters, but in another big city, in another state.

Concerning the specs, the rumored smartphone is speculated to arrive in three models, which will accommodate different lifestyles. A consumer version is said to contain 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, a prosumer version is said to come with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage and the business variant will have 8GB of RAM and a staggering 512GB storage, according to Trusted Reviews.

Additionally, the Surface Pro phone is also speculated to arrive with a USB Type-C port, a stylus, and said to be enclosed in an all-metal body. A Surface Dock support is also rumored to arrive as well.

iTechPost added that it may come equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip, probably the 830, a 21MP Carl Zeiss Pure View main camera, liquid-cooling technology, a 5.7-inch AMOLED HD display and a microSD card slot.

Microsoft has not confirmed or denied the existence of the Surface Phone.
