Gerald Green has been a journeyman in the National Basketball Association (NBA) but has proven he can play. The only thing that seems to be puzzling is perhaps why he has been overlooked by so many teams, although he did play for quite a while in Phoenix (Suns).
Green has been one of the more underrated scorers in the NBA, but it looks like his efforts have finally been recognized by Miami Heat. Although he is seen to be taking on a backup role, the fact is the kid can score.
Scoring is nothing new for Green, in fact he has been known for it. He has given the Heat a sample of what he can do and this was highlighted by that 28-point performance he gave in the preseason outing between the Heat and the Washington Wizards.
But his scoring goes beyond one game. In fact, Green turned out to be the Heat's leading scorer in the preseason, which should give Heat fans something to cheer about.
Many will say that it is preseason so things will change once the regular season kicks off. However, that shouldn't be a problem for Green. He put up decent numbers the last two season with the Suns so there is no reason for him not to do it with the Heat even if he ends up in the second unit.
Could Green be the player the Heat are looking for offensive-wise?
He was actually a surprise pick in the offseason and at a bargain. Although his contract is just for one year, the Heat could decide to keep him as long as it falls within the team's salary budget.
Aside from that, he may want to keep his emotions in check. Green was fined $25,000 by the NBA for that gun and throat-slash gesture he did when the Heat played the Wizards.
Other than that, the whole team seems to be happy with Green on board. Hopefully, he will continue to show his stuff this coming Wednesday when Miami host the New Orleans Pelicans.
