Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door reviews: First performance sports car that can actually take the family for a ride

The Mercedes AMG GT is a powerful sports car, with a sleek design worthy of the recognized brand name. Some people may not see it as something that would carry heavy cargo or several number of passengers. Fortunately, the car company decided to manufacture the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, exactly intended for the said services.

The AMG GT 4-Door Coupe is based on the CLS 53 design that Mercedes just released last month. Still, it is the first family model that can be said to belong to Mercedes' performance line of cars.

The GT 4-Door line of cars promises to be a powerful, family-friendly counterpart of the sports car. The base model, called GT 53, comes with a 429 horsepower engine. It also has a zero to 60 miles per hour (mph) acceleration time of 4.4 seconds. The hybrid engine is a six-cylinder mainly powered by gasoline but also benefits from some electric boost.

Meanwhile, the GT 63's engine is a twin-turbo V8 that has 577 horsepower. It can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds. The GT 63 S has a 630 horsepower engine, with a zero to 60 mph acceleration time of 3.1 seconds.

It should be noted that GT models have nine-speed, automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive. What's interesting is that the United States model of the GT 63 offers drift mode. This could be useful if the user ever fancies a little sideways driving just for fun.

The car company did not just add passenger seats to make the AMG GT a "family" car, though. They also added a touchpad interface where passengers can control a slew of car features from the back seat. Meanwhile, the front "infotainment" dashboard offers information relevant to the state of the car.

Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door Coupe will be available in the United States next year.
