As the trade deadline nears, one of the teams not eager to set up potential deals are the Memphis Grizzlies, who did not have a great start to the 2015–16 National Basketball Association (NBA) regular season but are beginning to perform better.
So far this season, the Grizzlies only had one trade deal accomplished after acquiring veteran point guard Mario Chalmers from the Miami Heat back in November.
The deal is working great for Memphis with Chalmers being a solid contributor coming off the bench.
But the successful deal will likely not be followed soon as Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace said "no," when asked if he is looking to trade, The Commercial Appeal reported.
"There's a fine line between always considering something and being active and aggressive. But you never want to go into any point of the year where you feel like you have to make a deal. That's how you end up making a mistake," Wallace explained.
"I like our team. We've regained our footing after a tough start (to the season). ...I'm optimistic and bullish on this team," he added.
Currently, the Grizzlies are fifth in the Western Conference with a 26–20 record, fresh off an overtime win over the young Orlando Magic last Monday.
In The Commercial Appeal's report, Wallace also said that even though there is no rush trying to trade, they are active and aggressive, always checking the market for possible deals that can improve the team, citing the addition of Chalmers as an example.
The Grizzlies are hoping to better their performance from last season when they reached the second round of the playoffs, only to fall in six games to eventual champions, the Golden State Warriors.
Next on the schedule for Memphis is the second game of a three-game home stand, taking on the Milwaukee Bucks this Thursday.
