Mayweather likely to go for 50€“0 against Pacquiao?

Would it be safe to say that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is not seriously retiring after his scheduled tiff with Andre Berto at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas on Sept. 12?

Majority believe such is the case.

The curious selection has led many to believe that Mayweather is simply targeting to equal Rocky Marciano's 49–0 record and take it from there. He could announce his retirement and then come out of it in 2016 or perhaps call out some boxer after the bout.

Could it be another unknown to break the record? How about taking on Karim Mayfield next?

That is, of course, looking beyond the September 12 fight; but it may not be surprising to see Mayweather take the easy route towards establishing a record and then think of fighting big name fighters next.

Heading the list is Manny Pacquiao.

Their May 2 fight may have disappointed but a big payday is still up. Many say they will not watch a Mayweather vs. Pacquiao II but as far as the numbers game is concerned, you can bet that some will give in at some point and end up watching it.

Even though it may not be as astronomical in numbers, just a fraction of the mega-million May 2 fight is a lucrative payday for any normal fighter. So why not make it happen?

For Floyd, money apparently talks and if the price is right, why not. Such could be a consideration for any fighter who has nothing left to prove. Besides, he schooled Pacquiao in May; so why not do it again?

Right now, money is only the reason why Mayweather would ever consider Pacquiao despite the fact that many are against it. Good point. But of all the fighters in the boxing circle right now, that seems to be the only fight that could draw in a good amount of financial gain.

Amir Khan is good but nothing compared to the drawing power of Pacquiao. Same goes for other names like Kell Brook, Gennady Golovkin, and Keith Thurman. The business angle is something that can interest Mayweather. Aside from that, why continue to fight if the fight purse is not worth the trouble?
