When Sharon Raydor (Mary McDonnell) and her team of operatives return after the short hiatus of "Major Crimes," viewers can expect the show to take on a different format.

According to CarterMatt, the TNT series will be back to adapting a more serialized set-up for its episode in February. "Major Crimes" will be featuring more extended cases that can stretch over a couple of weeks. This is reportedly TNT's way of boosting the series' ratings, as the competition is stiff for police procedural series during its scheduled time slot. The website also reports that the show has been renewed for season 5.

Last fall finale, the squad took on a killer with a peculiar modus operandi. The deranged criminal had a sick passion of making his own film with his victims as stars. While investigating the death of a film professor, the agents discovered that the killer left footage of the crime. A student who was supposed to pass her paper to her teacher found the body and she was able to describe the suspect as a 30-something guy holding a video camera.

Not long after, a new murder victim surfaced. It was a realtor, who worked as a coach for scriptwriters in the past. Another video of the killer shooting her in the face was left at the crime scene. While investigating, Sharon wondered how the two murders were connected. Try as they might, they could not find the link on why two innocent people were killed.

When the first break in the cases surfaced, they were able to identify the criminal. He was a former film student who dropped out and he was getting revenge from the two people who he felt crucified him while he was in school. At that time, he also abducted his brother. The killer was angry at him for not helping out when their mother was dying of cancer. Luckily for the guy, the team was able to apprehend the killer before it was too late.

"Major Crimes" season 4 will return on Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, at 9 p.m. EST on TNT.
