Fresh from the successful extraction of the American astronauts trapped at the International Space Station (ISS), Elizabeth (Téa Leoni) will take on another difficult job in the upcoming episode of the CBS series "Madam Secretary."

In "The Middle Way," CarterMatt reports that she will be traveling to Myanmar as representative of President Dalton (Keith Carradine) in the signing of a trade agreement. The contract will mean upgraded power grids for the Asian country, as well as its trading partners. For all intents and purposes, the whole thing is made in good will, but an unexpected resistance will stump Elizabeth.

In a surprise move, the U.S. ambassador is vetoing the deal. It is unclear why he does not want the United States to help modernize Myanmar. The synopsis reveals he has "immersed himself into the local culture," which can loosely be interpreted to him wanting to preserve the natural heritage of the Burmese people. Will Elizabeth be able to convince him to back her up in this endeavor?

Last episode was full of revelations. It was confirmed that Russian Premier Ostrov (Angela Gots) was dead due to the explosion in the midseason finale. Her people decided that they would have a three-day mourning for their president before even considering whether or not to honor the peace talk Ostrov and Dalton signed in Geneva. In that span of time, the Russians were also planning to launch a series of attacks on Ukraine, who was the primary suspect for the blast.

Elizabeth was also made busy by an unexpected emergency at the ISS. Two American astronauts got trapped without protective suits in the doomed space station when a North Korean satellite exploded. Only China had the technology to create nimbler suits that could be passed over to the stuck men. For the Asian powerhouse to agree on lending the life-saving space suits, the United States was forced to give them equal rights of using the ISS and sharing of technology.

"Madam Secretary" season 2 episode 12 will air on Sunday at a special time of 9 p.m. EST on CBS.
