Recent speculations say that Apple is gearing up for a whole new lineup of laptop and hybrid products in line with the OS X El Capitan and iOS 9 unveilings.
Unconfirmed reports place the release of the MacBook Air 2016 in the later part of the year, in October at the earliest. The timing has been ventured on by Apple observers, claiming that the company is just waiting for the final developments on the upcoming OS X El Capitan, sorting out glitches and bugs and putting the final touches for the new platform. In addition, Apple is also said to be planning for a more robust device that would put a dent in the competition, particularly the rumored Microsoft Surface Pro 4. This means that the upcoming MacBook Air 2016 will come out with the latest Intel processor, the much-touted M-based Skylake chipset.
Apart from the top-tier processor, the upcoming MacBook is also said to feature a more updated design and specs than its predecessor. Coming in a number of variants, the base model for the upcoming laptop is reported to offer at least 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of SSD storage. Meanwhile, the mid-ranged specs of a step-up model will offer a much better storage capacity at 256 GB SSD, while the top-notch MacBook Air will have a Core i7 CPU, 512 GB of storage, and a much-higher computing power at 8 GB of RAM.
In terms of design, the new MacBook will sport a much slimmer body by adapting the USB Type-C ports that Apple already included in this year's current MacBook. Meanwhile, the display will also get an upgrade, reportedly a higher-definition Retina display that would be measured in two versions – 13-inch and 15-inch ones. The displays will offer 1440 x 900 pixel resolution or higher, which would greatly complement the new Skylake processors inside.
