Los Angeles Lakers trade rumors 2016: Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook targeted as a duo?

The biggest free agent in the market following the season, Oklahoma City Thunder's Kevin Durant, might head to Los Angeles, and later his partner Russell Westbrook may come along as well.

Once the 2015–16 National Basketball Association (NBA) season concludes, Durant will be the most sought after player by teams looking to become championship contenders.

The Los Angeles Lakers is one of the squads reportedly going to make a run at acquiring Durant, and they might have a strong chance.

Stephen A. Smith discussed on ESPN Los Angeles a few days ago why he believes the Lakers are an option for Durant.

"Keep in mind this, one of the biggest reasons I'm told, that Kevin Durant may have the Lakers at the top of his list, is because the Lakers have been led to believe, by whom specifically I do not know, but the Lakers have been led to believe that it is a very good chance that the following year Russell Westbrook is coming," Smith said as transcribed by The Inquisitr

Smith then spoke about the relationship of Durant and Westbrook playing in one team, how they love sharing the court with one another, adding that if the two would play in Los Angeles, there is a "better market."

However, the renowned sports personality added that Durant and Westbrook leaving the Thunder is not a done deal yet, but there is a huge possibility it might happen.

The Inquisitr mentioned in its report a series of moves that the Lakers can do to add the duo and it starts in trying to sign Durant in the upcoming free agency period.

Once Durant inks a deal and is a part of the Lakers, the team can trade for Westbrook who after this season still has a year left in his contract with Oklahoma City.

But The Inquisitr also suggested that Westbrook can wait until he becomes a free agent in 2017 before signing with Los Angeles and again teaming up with Durant.

Despite the possibilities, the Thunder are still favored to sign Durant and make him stay when free agency hits in July.
