LA Lakers trade rumors 2016: DeMar DeRozan could return

For DeMar DeroZan, it could be more than a max deal for him to make his final decision on where to play after this season.

While he maintains his loyalty for his current club, the Toronto Raptors, one can never tell if other teams could provide him more than just playing time and riches. And on that thought, the Los Angeles Lakers come to mind.

Everyone knows that playing for the Lakers comes with additional perks. That includes Hollywood skits and, of course, being part of the NBA's successful franchises. And from there, everyone can start counting down the greats and future opportunities any player can look forward to, particularly the high caliber ones.

With the Lakers having more than enough salary cap space, DeRozan could be a key acquisition if they are successful. Kobe Bryant will no longer be around so DeRozan can have one less worry about the attention and playing time he is bound to get.

But all that depends on what DeRozan plans after this season. He can decline his player option by season's end but the Raptors can opt to match offers dangled toward him.

Then there is the Bryant factor as well. Apparently, DeRozan looks up to Bryant a lot and being considered to take his place and start a whole new legacy are intangibles that could sway him to consider donning the purple and gold outfit.

While it is still too early, DeRozan could be weighing out things right now. He is more than an able player to pick up from where Bryant will be leaving out but is torn, given his loyalty to the Raptors organization.

If money plays a pivotal role, he could end up staying in Toronto since the club can offer the most money over potential suitors — including the Lakers.

Hence, it could all boil down to more than money in the table for the ninth selection of the 2009 NBA Draft.
