Will Season 5 be the final season for Netflix's Longmire?
Rumors are circulating that the series may be filming its swan song since it is not catering to the target market of the streaming site, reported Game N Guide.
It can be recalled that the show, which was an original A&E series was originally cancelled by its mother network after Season 3 because of ratings but its strong core audience compelled Netflix to pick up the show for its fourth season.
A&E cited that Longmire did not reach its younger target audience as the show consistently appealed more to older viewers.
Now, speculations are strong that the fifth season will feature the death of lead character Walt Longmire, played by Robert Taylor or his love interest Vic (Katee Sackhoff) because a crime show as complicated as Longmire would most likely end in death.
However, contrary to cancellation rumors, there are also fan theories that are hinting that instead of a death, Season 5 will showcase the development of the romance of Walt and Vic.
Actor Lou Diamond Phillips, for his part, is having none of the cancellation theories and is teasing a potential sixth season, through his Twitter post.
On his account, he captioned a bar shot with Til Next Season, which piqued the interest of the show's fans and gave them confidence that Season 5 will not be the end of their favorite crime series.
So far, there has been no confirmation from Netflix that it is planning to cancel the show after Season 5. As a matter of fact, Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos stated early this year that they are happy with the performance of the show in terms of following.
Longmire" Season 5 is expected to answer the hanging questions from the season finale such as who invaded Walt's home and what is the motive of the shooting? More so, the better question is what happened after the shooting although it is unlikely that Walt, as the main character would be the one perish from the attack.
For those who would want to find out the answers, Longmire will air on September 23, 2016 on Netflix.
