Lizard Squad: Finest Squad foils hacker group's planned Christmas day Xbox Live and PSN takedown, gets members arrested

Notorious hacker group Lizard Squad has been launching attacks on Microsoft Xbox since the start of the month. As the big finale of their scheme, the crew, who torn down Sony's Play Station Network, is playing Grinch as they strive to ultimately raze the Xbox online gaming to the ground on Christmas Day.

Due to their 'propagandist' ways, which include taking down online components of "Call of Duty", "Madden", "FIFA" and "The Sims 4" as well as hacking into servers of "World of Warcraft" developer Blizzard, the Finest Squad was formed to clean up their mess. In online hacking language, the new rival did "doxxing" on the menacing group as its punishment. This entailed gaining access to the public Twitter accounts and websites of the members of the Lizard Squad and every bit of detail found in each of those was leaked online. Although it remains to be unknown how the counter-hackers pulled it off, Ecumenical News cites that vulnerable accounts like Skype, Twitter and other web hosting accounts would have been their thresholds.

Finest Squad saved the day and revealed the troublemakers penetrated and toppled big video gaming companies. "The group used a tactic that sends a flood of web traffic to a single network which is designed to crash the web server. It's known as a distributed denial of service attack and could have cost as little as AU$200," News AU stated. After getting a taste of their own medicine, members of Lizard Squad were apprehended by US authorities. One even updated his followers about his arrest.

The Lizard Squad attacked Xbox online twice this month and shut it down, leaving players unable to play online. But thanks to Finest Squad, gaming during the holidays will hopefully not be spoiled and disrupted by a hacker group who do it 'just for the lulz'.
