LG G2, G3, G4 to skip Android Lollipop 5.1.1 update and go directly for 6.0 Marshmallow?

Google has officially unveiled its newest platform, Android 6.0 Marshmallow. In the same event that launched the OS iteration, the industry giant also unveiled two new Nexus phones. One of them, the Nexus 5X, was made in partnership with South Korea-based LG Electronics.

With the Nexus 5X shipping out with Android 6.0 Marshmallow right out of the box, fans of the smartphone manufacturer are wondering: When will LG send out Android updates for its current flagship lineups?

According to the rumor mill, since LG already has a flagship that's sure to appear with the new Android platform, the tech manufacturer may just be readying its own Android 6.0 updates for some of its other smartphones. This means that current flagships G2, G3, and G4 will be skipping a 5.1.1 Lollipop update and instead get an Android 6.0 upgrade .

According to Yibada, LG has been slow in its software updates for its phones. The oldest of the flagships, the G2, is still running on the original Android 5.0 platform. The G3 and G4, meanwhile, stopped their updates with Android 5.1 Lollipop. With the rollout of the Android 6.0 platform already confirmed, it stands to reason that LG would forego the 5.1.1 update in favor of the most recent Android version.

However, acording to previous reports by other observers like GSM Arena, LG was said to be making a 5.1.1 update, at least for the G2. The information was apparently courtesy of an insider leak, the source being an LG employee. It did not say, however, if the update would be only for the older version of the lineup.

Whichever the case, LG will definitely update its G series, since the smartphones under the lineup are all flagships and LG's bets against other premium smartphones from competitors.
