Jessica Jones season 2 premiere date, spoilers: Jessica and Trish's relationship develops; new villains to take on

With David Tennant's Kilgrave out of the picture after Jessica Jones effectively snapped his neck in the first season, the show is left with the challenge of coming out with a villain that is just as sinister or even more compelling than the Purple Man.

Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg acknowledged that because of Tennant's level of performance, it would be hard to top. The best they can do is bring in more villains to make life difficult for the main protagonist played by Krysten Ritter.

"No one is ever going to beat David Tennant as Kilgrave, so you don't do that. The biggest mistake would be to try to repeat that. You just go, "OK, we're not doing that, so we have this open to us," she said to Entertainment Weekly.

She however, stopped short of revealing which actor or actors will play the main antagonists in the second season.

In the same interview, Rosenberg also said that she is interested to explore the friendship of Jessica and Trish, as well as dealing with social issues, much like they did in the first season.

While there are fans who want a romantic relationship to develop between the two women, she clarified however that right now, she is more inclined towards fleshing out their history and connection.

So far, in the first season, the show has managed to establish an evolution of the relationship from being estranged to being sisters in a sense.

Meanwhile, while production is still busy charting the direction for the second season, the first one is still earning recognition from bodies like the Hugo Awards, reported Gizmondo.

The show recently received best dramatic presentation (short form) for Jessica Jones: "AKA Smile," written by Scott Reynolds, Melissa Rosenberg, and Jamie King, directed by Michael Rymer.

Season 2 is expected to release by 2018.
