Michael Cordero (Brett Dier) still has not given up on finding new trails that will lead to the mysterious woman who kidnapped baby Mateo when the hit The CW series "Jane the Virgin" returns for season 2B.

During the midseason finale, the detective was back to square one in his search for Sin Rostro. The woman he has been tracking, Luisa Alver's (Yara Martinez) mother, managed to escape. Michael believed that she was the notorious drug lord Mutter, and Luisa agreed with his suspicion. When they learned of a woman who jumped off the bridge and was washed ashore, they decided to look for her. The trail led them to a mental institution, where Mutter was supposedly living after losing her memory. They soon discovered, however, that she has gotten away.

Michael has also been far removed from the drama in Jane Villanueva's (Gina Rodriguez) life. Ever since he became the reason of her and Rafael Solano's (Justin Baldoni) fight, he has kept his distance. Jane found out that her baby's daddy was the reason Michael lost his job. They had an ugly fight, where Rafael learned that Jane was still not over her ex-fiancé. Although they spent Christmas together with Mateo, viewers saw that their relationship has drastically cooled.

Meanwhile, the promo of the upcoming midseason premiere shows Jane and Rogelio dela Vega (Jaime Camil) learning a family secret. The latter's mother, Liliana (Rita Moreno) will pay them a visit and see Mateo for the first time. In the clip, she and Jane are having a small talk when the subject about Rogelio's father comes up. According to Liliana, Jane's grandfather is gay and that he left her for a man. Jane is left speechless, but it is nothing to Rogelio's reaction after hearing the explosive truth.

"Jane the Virgin" season 2 will return on Monday, Jan. 25, at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
