'James Bond 25' cast update: Luke Evans hesitant about replacing Daniel Craig

Luke Evans initially wanted to become the first Welsh James Bond since Timothy Dalton, and he seems to be still interested in taking such daunting task. However, he admitted he is a bit hesitant to replace Daniel Craig as the 007 spy.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Evans said it would be an honor to be the next James Bond. However, it will not be an easy feat to succeed someone like Craig, who is deemed by many as the best Bond and the most financially successful so far.

"It's an extraordinary franchise and incredible role but whoever takes on the role after Daniel Craig has got a job on his hands," he explained. "So yeah, it's attractive, but it also doesn't come without its trepidation – it wouldn't be an easy thing to do."

Indeed, Craig's successor has a big hole to fill. Not only did the 49-year-old actor lead arguably some of the best installments of "James Bond" franchise, he completely redefined the character as well. In addition, Evans pointed out that Craig also has a huge fan base, something any successor to the role should secure before the filming even starts. Despite these, the younger actor does not rule out the possibility of ever portraying the British agent.

"Who knows? It wouldn't be an easy thing to take over that role, although it is a fantastic character," Evans concluded.

In 2013, Evans named James Bond as the character he wanted to play one day, adding that the world needs another Welsh actor for the role. Since then, he became one of the top picks to replace Craig. Among those in the shortlist are Tom Hardy, Jack Huston, and Aiden Turner, although Craig already confirmed he is not retiring the role just yet.

"James Bond 25" is still in early development right now and does not have an official release date yet.
