Rumor mills have churned killer specs for the Samsung Galaxy S6, said to be the South Korea-based tech firm's next flagship smartphone. This may finally end the reign of the Apple iPhone 6, a feat the Galaxy S5 has failed to do. The Samsung Galaxy S6 is pitted to be a major upgrade from its predecessor and this very device may finally knock Apple's first large-screened offering off the throne.
The iPhone 6 came with an aluminum body, as expected from the Cupertino-based company. Samsung, on the other hand, will be deserting plastic exteriors for a much sophisticated metal shell. It's the same for its Alpha lineup, thus it is only right that the next-generation flagship will be housed in a streamlined casing. There are also rumors that the Samsung Galaxy S6, or one variant of it, will have its edges curved. This earned the upcoming device the moniker Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
Apple's offering has a 4.7-inch Retina display to boast. The screen breakthrough made it one of the best in the display department, even with the numbers 750 x 1334 pixels and 326 ppi pixel density sounding a bit inferior. If the rumors prove true, the S6 will certainly put up a fight. Speculations indicate that the device will sport a 5.2- or 5.3-inch quad HD display, which will render 1440 x 2560 screen resolution and a 534 ppi pixel density. Other reports claim that Samsung will go for a Super AMOLED screen with a 4K pixel resolution.
Inside the iPhone 6 is an A8 processor, one that is tailored for Apple devices. This is the secret to its speedy performance, despite an internal memory of only at 1 GB. Its storage capacity starts at 32 GB. There's 64 GB and there's 128 GB. Reports about the S6 in this department are a bit diverse. Many believe that the handset will pack a 64-bit octa-core Exynos 7420 processor while others say it will bear a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. The RAM will most likely be at 3 GB and storage capacity is expected to be expandable from its native 32 GB memory up to 128 GB.
The Galaxy S6 will go all out in the camera department, one where Apple seems to not give much attention to. If the future offering will be loaded with a 20-megapixel shooter, the iPhone 6's will easily drown. It is important to note here though, that megapixels do not determine the whole performance of the device. This is why its 8-megapixel snapper is also loved.
In terms of the juice, this is yet another area that requires testing. The iPhone 6 can last up to 14 hours with its 1810 mAh battery. The Galaxy S6 is expected to sport a unit that can outlast and outdo the previous handsets in its lineup. The Galaxy S5 can run up to 21 hours before prompting users for a charge up.
Pricing is still something vague but the S6 should come with a hefty price tag. Media outlets say that a price of at least £600 should be expected when the device is released at, with high hopes, the Mobile World Congress in March. The iPhone 6, on the other hand, has been selling like hotcakes since its release in September. As per GSM Arena, a unit costs around £520.
