Reports that surfaced as early as last week said that Apple will be releasing a new version of the iOS 9 by Tuesday, which turned out to be mere speculations. However, the rumors did get the general timeframe right as the third beta version of iOS 9 is now live.
The download file appeared in the developer page and beta program site of the Cupertino-based company Thursday. According to the release notes, the new beta brings significant changes to the previous iOS 9 build.
Most notable among the new features on the iOS 9 beta 3 build is the unlocking of the "News" app. First mentioned at this year's Worldwide Developers' Conference last month, the app organizes personalized content for iOS users by providing curated lists of news and other information based on the user's preferences from popular websites and digital newspapers. When prompted, "News" will display the updated content in an iOS-friendly layout.
To get information and news relevant to the user, the app builds on the topics and channels that are pre-selected by the user. Upon setting the refresh rate for the app, "News" will then populate the user's "For You" tab in the app, displaying a list of stories each day. Aside from checking information from selected sources, "News" also has a Favorites section that lets users see relevant content at a glance.
Aside from getting information in a timely and organized manner, an iOS user can also share news using the app. When reading a story, the user can add it to the Saved section in the app – this will add an option to share the current story using the Share Sheet. When used in conjunction with Safari, a new feature will also be added to the mobile browser, letting the readers add any RSS feed to the app.
