Indianapolis Colts roster news 2016: Owner Jim Irsay optimistic franchise quarterback Andrew Luck stays

Indianapolis Colts franchise quarterback Andrew Luck was limited to only seven games this season because of various injuries, but soon, he might get the biggest deal in his National Football League (NFL) career.

According to ESPN, Colts owner Jim Irsay is hopeful they can sign Luck to an extension deal that is worth "nine figures."

"Obviously being this early, there's no reason to think that we would have had major negotiations yet, but that's going to be happening as this month gets later and March comes in and all that sort of thing," Irsay said last Tuesday, according to the report.

"I think there's a good chance we'll get something done," the 56-year-old team owner added.

Irsay also said Luck will be one of the highest-paid players in the NFL once he inks his new deal, as he also looks forward for the number one overall pick in 2012 to stay with the Colts for a long time.

However, Irsay aims to give Luck a contract allowing them to surround him with "talented players" to build a championship team.

Before being ravaged by injuries this season, Luck played full seasons in his first three years in the NFL.

In all of those three seasons, the 26-year-old helped Indianapolis to the postseason and last season, the team reached the American Football Conference (AFC) Championship Game.

Unfortunately, they lost to eventual champions the New England Patriots in a highly controversial game which was later dubbed as the "Deflategate" scandal.

Luck was unable to seize the limited opportunity he had this season, only completing 162 passes for 1,881 yards and 15 touchdowns, also throwing 12 interceptions, in only seven games.

But in the report by ESPN, Irsay said Luck is already healed and is looking ahead to a great offseason, also adding that the quarterback is ready to see action if they were the ones playing in the Super Bowl this Sunday.
