HTC One M10 release, specs rumors: Smartphone to get new name, ultra powerful specs

The One M9, the polarizing smartphone for HTC. HTC/HTC One M9

There are already speculations about the makings of the HTC One M10, the purported follow-up to the current flagship, the One M9. If the rumors are accurate, the forthcoming handset will be the Taiwan-based manufacturer's most redoubtable and strongest offering yet.

According to reports, HTC is finally ditching the One M moniker starting with this new device, which is reportedly going by the name HTC O2. This handset will get its power from a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, the new-generation processor more powerful and more efficient than the 810 chipset.

This does not come as a surprise as the HTC One M9, which had the latter under the hood, suffered severe issues on performance. The 820 processor should fix that, not only for HTC but also for Qualcomm, which felt the impact of the overheating issues on the business.

As for the display, the so-called HTC One M10 is expected to come either with a decent 5-inch display or a 6-inch touchscreen. Whichever size it will go for, reports are one in saying that the screen will render Quad HD quality.

The smartphone is said to offer 4 GB of RAM with storage space as big as 64 GB and 128 GB. In the camera department, users are looking at a 20-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 5-megapixel shooter on the front.

The battery will be at a massive 3500 mAh, which can be charged wirelessly, according to reports. The HTC O2 is also expected to get a Touch ID as well as a fingerprint scanner. Lastly, to make it an overall heavy-duty package, the device will allegedly be waterproof.

Rumor mills are at odds when it comes to pinpointing the release date of the HTC One M10. There are reports that it will be launched before the year ends, while others suggest it won't arrive until late next year. If HTC is going by a pattern based on the release of the One M9, the new device should be here by the first or second quarter of 2016.
