Houston Rockets trade rumors 2016: Dwight Howard trade talks initiated by team?

Former All-Star center Dwight Howard might be focused on getting better this season, but the Houston Rockets are looking for a potential trade partner where they can ship him, with the deadline fast approaching.

In a report by Adrian Wojnarowski on Yahoo Sports, he stated that according to sources, the Rockets have contacted teams regarding a trade for Howard.

Howard, who can opt out of his current contract with Houston following the season, has been in the trade rumor mill for some time now but no significant move has been made yet.

According to Wojnarowski, sources said the "uncertainty" between Howard and the Rockets once he becomes a restricted free agent after the season is the reason why general manager Daryl Morey is seeking for a deal to part ways with the veteran big man.

The report added that Houston is already working with Dan Fegan, Howard's agent, to find a team where he may play next.

Along with the reported disappointment the 30-year-old center has playing behind the shadow of star guard James Harden, the Rockets' lackluster 2015–16 season can also be considered as one of the reasons why he is linked to trade rumors.

Following a season where they made it to the Western Conference Finals, the Rockets are currently ninth in the standings and are on a three-game losing streak.

However, Howard is playing efficiently, averaging 14.6 points, 12 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 blocks, and one steal in 32.3 minutes of action per game.

Setting aside the health setbacks that are troubling him this season, Howard remains to be a quality starting center who can contribute in every aspect of the game on any given night.

But team/s aiming to acquire Howard must consider one issue and that is his contract, which is the reason why the Rockets are trying to trade him.

Once shipped to another team, Howard may just play out his existing pact, then leave to explore free agency and land a much bigger deal.
