Her mental condition may have been put on the back burner in the past season, but Carrie Mathison's (Claire Danes) bipolar disorder will come back with a vengeance in the upcoming installment of "Homeland."

Being on the run from the people who wanted her killed and worrying about Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) took up most of the storyline for Carrie in season 5. Most viewers kind of forget that she is suffering from a mental disorder. If not for a particular episode where she shunned her medication, Carrie looked completely normal in most of her scenes. She was obviously scared for her life but she managed to remain focused on her quest to unmask her tormentors. This, perhaps, kept the mood swings away.

In season 6, all of her depression will come back as she finds herself in a familiar territory, the streets of New York City. Series creator Alex Ganza told New York Times that Carrie's bipolar disorder would once again resurface. He shared that this storyline has always been part of their conversation when it comes to Danes' character.

"We tend every season to touch the subject of her condition, and to weave it into the story, and some people wish we didn't do that. But for us, the fact that she's bipolar is central to her character, speaks volumes about how she chooses to live her life, and it's one that we'll always come back to every year," he said.

Meanwhile, spoilers indicate that Quinn will be returning to the series after surviving the harrowing ordeal last finale. How and when he will be seen again still remains a mystery. However, as news about Friend's character are scarce and far in between. Co-creator Howard Gordon told The Hollywood Reporter back in January that there was "a good chance" that he would be back.

"The way we're thinking about bringing him back — if he does come back — is really exciting to me personally," he shared.

"Homeland" season 6 is expected to return this fall.
